Being chosen for any event is always flattering, but when it’s for an internationally recognised celebration of contemporary craft and design like Collect, it’s more than a huge honour. And this year, as an online event celebrating makers from all over the globe, it’s more inclusive and relevant than ever.
This February you’ll find our Chinese Laundry collection featured as part of the 17th edition of Collect - International Art Fair for Contemporary Craft and Design. Our unique architectural origami will be part of Collect alongside 32 international galleries that are presenting over 400 artists from 35 nations.
Our work is an experiential paper fold installation. Chinese Laundry features 39 panels of hanging Tyvek, each piece hand folded and up to 3 metres long, to create a distinctive ‘walk through’ experience.
We’ve been selected for the prestigious event in the art calendar by the Design Nation panel, who we’ve worked and been supported by for nearly a decade. This year the panel have chosen an incredible collection of 20 talented makers that we’re supremely proud to sit alongside.
This year has been remarkable for many reasons, and we’ve found solace in our making. The repetitive folding and rythmic nature of our work continues to be a therapy of sorts. Being able to share it with a global audience is so rewarding for us and by reaching an audience who appreciates craftsmanship, we hope our work will deliver a sense of restorative serenity to those who experience it.
“In troubled times the beauty of the exceptional handmade object is held in more esteem than ever: we feel sure that our selection of exhibiting artists will have beautiful and striking works to please everyone.”
Where is Collect?
Traditionally Collect has been held at the beautiful Somerset House but this year, the event goes online which means so many more people will be able to access the event than ever before. We hope you can make it.
Collect will be in partnership with the online art platform Artsy to showcase the works for sale from 26 February - 24 March 2021.
How can I invest in your work?
To acquire a Chinese Laundry series for your gallery, home or workspace, three panels start at £1500 plus P+P.
Collect 2021: International Art Fair for Contemporary Art and Design will be presented virtually by Craft Council on artsy.net 24 February – 2 March 2021.
